This book examines the approach of wasaṭiyyah in the discourse of Maḥmūd Shaltūt's scholarship. It identifies ways to improve the conditions of the Ummah due to the lack of understanding of the concept of wasaṭiyyah, the challenges of religious extremism, and the emerging issues in the contemporary Muslim world. It explores the concepts of wasaṭiyyah and its principles within the Islamic framework. It also delineates the core characteristics and essentials of wasaṭiyyah that have been adopted as guidelines to evaluate this research study.
Subsequently, this study investigates Shaltūt's life, intellectual career and his influence on society and the Muslim world. It concludes with a critical evaluation of Shaltūt's approach to the idea of wasaṭiyyah, identifying his methodological approach to wasaṭiyyah in legal issues, ʿAqīdah and contemporary ideologies, and public affairs issues that were discussed in his scholarly works.
